M3JetPilot wroteIt doesn’t look nearly as big when broken-up for EU standard licence plates (which are mandatory)Is this an argument in favor of the big grille? The pic is grotesque, even for a video game. Either way, the big grille is still ugly.

BMW’s approach to electrification has been exciting, but I sincerely hope they learn from Mercedes’ mistake with the AMG C63 S E Performance. As they continue to develop the M EV lineup, they must preserve what has made their M cars legendary—the inline-6s and V8s. These engines aren’t just powerplants; they’re the heartbeat of the driving experience, delivering unmatched soundtracks, tactile feedback, and soul that resonate with enthusiasts.
Mercedes went all-in on their hybrid 4-cylinder setup with impressive specs, but it’s been met with lukewarm enthusiasm because it lacks that emotional connection. A car isn’t just about how fast it goes; it’s about how it makes you feel behind the wheel. BMW has always understood this balance, and their S58 I6 and S63 V8 engines are masterclasses in combining modern engineering with old-school excitement.
If BMW is serious about entering the electric M car era while staying true to its roots, they should aim for innovation without sacrificing identity. Give us electrification, but alongside the raw power, sound, and personality that have defined M cars for decades. Enthusiasts don’t just want a car they want an experience. Let’s hope BMW listens and keeps their engines roaring in harmony with the future.

I haven't heard a BMW sound good since the E platforms. Turbo cars sound like shit to me.
They did a good job with the waste gate dump sound and stuff but the overrun/burbles is pure trash. The S63 sounds ok though because there is displacement behind it.

chicagofan00 wroteAs far as EV incentives go. I bought my Taycan without getting any. I think if you really want the car, the incentives matter less. The Taycan was an amazing drive, people who call them appliances haven’t lived with them to know how they handle in daily situations. I am intersted in the M3 EV, waiting to see final specs and the design.I guess it depends upon what the development costs are for this model but given that a decent amount would be shared alongside the regular 3er that should help keep the costs fairly inline and hopefully won’t see a large premium compared to previous gen M3s. Time will tell I guess, especially depending upon what EV incentives are taken away and what potential tarrifs are looking like in a few years. 🤷🏻♂️

M3JetPilot wroteI agree the E36 is ugly. Some of the worst stock wheels ever. I would not have bought one and skipped that generation.
mirob wroteI think you two need to get your eyes checked because this is the opposite of “ugly.” And Style 24s are the best OEM BMW wheel and only came as an option on the E36 M3…The E36 M3 is ugly af

LuckyBrand wroteThe S58 will be an absolute monster with a mild hybrid. The only complaint about the s58 is that it’s a little sluggish below 3k. I just wish it would come in manual, but that ain’t happening.Yeah I really think both will be unreal power wise. The full electric obviously will be insane but adding the mild hybrid set up as long as they keep the weight down on the ice it should be brutal as well. I mean I think the G80 already can do what, 2.9ish no helper?

And yes, I would love a manual option. I may never get rid of my G80 because of that reason. Or I will have to find an older fun vehicle with a manual just to have around.

rlampare wroteI drive a small sports sedan with very real performance but thanks for the tip. The reality is that if you are so emotional that a new powertrain LITERALLY offends you, then you need to go back home and put your big boy pants on. Dudes in here really trying to suggest we eliminate a product because it hurts their feelings. Meanwhile, China continues to eat our collective lunches because they operate objectively and with calculation.I second that emotion… If you want to be rational, go buy a cheap Chevy volt. Why are you even on a forum for people that are emotionally fixated on their BMWs? You say “a car is a car“ I think because you drive an SUV. Maybe if you had a real car you’d feel differently?

M3JetPilot wroteThere were numerous renderings of looks that would have been much better than what they did and would have been great designs for the M3.If the G80 had looked like this can you imagine the drop in sales?! And the calls from the BMW enthusiasts to make the grille larger and more aggressive. It would have been a disaster😜

Oh well. There were numerous renderings of looks that would have been much better than what they did and would have been great designs for the M3.

M3JetPilot wroteThanks. I have a hard time picking a favorite. Obviously I am partial to the E36, but in terms of styling I think it’s a three-way tie between the E30, E36, and E46 M3, followed by the E9X M3, then F8X and finally G8X. The E30, E36, and E46 all have design cues that I love and none of them have a bad angle. They’re just timeless designs.Nice example and I like the color. Being as objective as possible how would you rank the M3’s based on looks? Is the E36 at the top for you?

E36 M3 is beautiful, it’s an absolute pleasure to still see them on the road from time to time. Loved my Hellrot one back in the late 90s. I always wanted an Avus colored version with a white interior, but never happened.

It's the ugliest M3 and the least genuine one (US-spec). There is nothing remarkable about the car. The Euro-spec is only marginally redeemed by the S50.I think you two need to get your eyes checked because this is the opposite of “ugly.” And Style 24s are the best OEM BMW wheel and only came as an option on the E36 M3…
As far as the rest of the renders here - they all look like 330i's with tacky body kits. Money doesn't by taste.
