BMW i3 NA0 vs. 3-Series G50 Info: Models, Production Dates, Similarities & Difference
![]() Featured on BIMMERPOST.com NA0/NA1 i3 Sedan
G50/G51 3 Series
Similarities / Differences: Just like BMW signaled, NA0 and G50 are being designed to look very similar to each other - to the point that they're even sharing wheel options. Though NA0 will likely be considered a bit more upscale. Little details like both will get the fancy multifunction seats but only NA0 will include the massage function. Dates for NA0 i3 production adjusted above: non-US starts in 07/26, not in 11/26 as previously specified, and production ends in 10/34, the same time as G50 3 Series. |

No, the most important question is will the M3/4 still be made in Germany. If SLP, I'm out.

They also, especially in southern Bavaria, have a serious pride about BMW; not an “I got a great job and I love this company and brand” pride, but a “this is my homeland and this is what we make pride.” Germany, more than anywhere, is divided down to the region by car. The only car that crosses the various regional boundaries with a unanimous level of national pride is the 911. Tell a Bavarians you have a BMW and you can see them thinking "this stupid American has an X5,” as they respond with their quintessential, “oh, really?!” When they hear M car, it’s as if you’ve joined the family…in a roundabout German way, but it’s the best they can do. They’re not Italians, after all. I can manage a little bit of German and when you land in Munich and tell the customs officer you’ve come to go to the “Nurburgring mit Bay-Emm-Vay,” it’s pure “freude am stampen” with a hearty “wilkommen,” on the other end. Like Oktoberfest, BMW lives in them. The M5 may be the expensive M car and the M2 may be the true successor to the M3, but the M3/4 are the halo cars for BMW. I don’t care about the series cars or the SUVs. But the halo car? The halo car should be made in the homeland, by the obsessive, technically anal, prideful Bavarians. Deep down you know this. I know this. The Germans certainly know this. They can explain to me in their reads-like-an-owners-manual direct translation until their blue in the face, “makes no difference.” But they know. A 911 will never be made anywhere else. That they have to admit. The Germans will never buy a German made tequila. That they have to admit. An M3 or M4 should be made in Bavaria, by Bavarians, even if all they do is turn on the machines.

Hopefully they’ll continue building the full M variants in Germany…

Nice story but who cares what others (Germans) think.
If I’m paying top dollar then I want my product made in the homeland, Germany.

Unless BMW has found a cheaper more cost-efficient way to produce the highest selling vehicle they make, why would it change? Oh, to piss off enthusiasts, right 😴

Just wondering: aren’t the american members on this board bothered about the import taxes raised by the Trump gov? If it’s going to be made in Germany?
It’s going to cost European prices of that happens. |

You are exactly right. A german is not the most social nor polite kinda guy, but always respectful, working hard and mostly following the rules.

It’s an age old dilemma. As the car manufacturer expands to markets outside of the home country, supply chains become more complex. Do you build everything in Germany for all markets? This was certainly the start. Or - do you begin to use every country’s manufacturing capabilities to optimize costs and model availability? Does the second option remove the “soul” from the car? It doesn’t. BMW Spartanburg plant commands worldwide respect.
But for low volume vehicles at a much higher price point, the marketing department likes to point to the “born in Germany” soul as one of the reasons to justify a higher price. Customers that lease tend to focus on monthly payments and less so on where the car was manufactured. If it breaks, “there an app for that”. |

Haha, yep. Just swapped the Tesla for the i4 back on the 17th of this month. Feels great to be back in a BMW.
