Some new future engines info (from Future BMW models information Thread)

- Next-gen G50 3-Series engines: 320, 330, and 330e will get the new B48TÜ3 in different tunes.

- Next-gen G65 X5 engines: B57, B58, S68.

- B58 is getting a new revision, B58TÜ3. It will first show up on G70 LCI 735 (286hp/295lb-ft) and 740 (400hp/400lb-ft) next July.
Any word on the new B58 for the G60
5er in the US?
Any B58 engineering changes are always welcome. Especially the ones with +HP.
Different tunes? Uh oh... HPaaS?
After its lifecycle, I'm curious to see what the B58 finishes as. Each update seems to provide welcomed additions while maintaining the reliability we have come to expect with the B58.

If this is BMW's last inline-six engine, what a way to go out and would have to be considered one of the best engines of all-time.
B58 came out in 2017?

No way that’s the case. US market alone will justify continuation of 6 cylinders.

You're probably correct, but he may also be. Meaning, it could be the last inline 6 cylinder engine they develop, but may also be used for many years to come.
Only 286hp for the leaden land yacht that is the 7-Series??? :confused2

286hp variant is filled with BMW 0w-8! BMW should jettison this Euro 7 emissions trash.

Not saying BMW stops offering a straight-six, but given how good the B58 has been and BMW openly saying the the straight-six is here to stay (at least for the immediate future), we could see BMW continue to give technical updates (TU) to the B58 to extend its lifecycle. With BMW now shifting to EV/Neue Klasse, not sure if they would design a completely new engine.
Sometimes they come out with a TU (technical update) for an engine due to progressively stricter emission regulations and not just to improve reliability or performance.

From N52 to N54 to N55 to B58, these now feel almost frictionless engines.. making them a little sterile..
Price of progress, I guess..

Likely coupled with hybrid propulsion so HP/QT is ++
TÜ? Is that pseudo German? Technical Update is not with a German Umlaut above the U.

I agree on that, too. If the current engine is working, why reinvent the wheel? Clearly, they’ve not maxed out the power it can produce and remain reliable. Plenty of runway left on the B58. I’m a noise and torque junky and have had 4 N63 cars, total. But even I’ve been victim to the charm of the B58. I’ve likely owned my last N63 car (I won’t rule out another V8 SUV but that’s a different world). Hell, even in the big SUV’s and 7 series, the B58 is objectively hard to put down. Our X7 M50 is fast and powerful but the X7 40i was probably better to drive in town with its light front end and it was plenty quick. Same with a 740i.

It is correct to have the umlaut, as that’s the proper German spelling for the phrase “Technisch Überarbeitet”
What is the B57 engine?

Only so many ways you can develop a motor. But they’ll figure out the next innovation that’ll require another motor designation.

I mean, how the M54 looked to be it, then they came out with valvetronic. So who knows what else they’ll be. Valvetronic for the exhaust ports? Oval pistons? New way for fuel injection? Emissions regulations?

With synthetic fuel coming out to be more mainstream and couple that with the huge desire for motors over EVs, I can’t see them not developing new types of motors.

Diesel motor based off the N57

I don’t think they’d stoop to 0W-8, then again, I wasn’t surprised when they went to 0W-12 in 2023 for hybrid cars(easier on the motor when it’s a lot colder, which tends to be how hybrid cars are driven).

The engineers do re-design some aspects of the motor to support it. So it’s not like they throw ya to the metal shaving wolves

I tend to follow the highest viscosity in the book anyways. The lowest one is for fuel economy.
The future will definitely be different to the past
