I know it's just a render and the final product might look nothing like, but if this is anywhere close - SIGN ME UP for the convertible version. Right now. Seriously.
With no offense intended to current 4-series owners, I simply can't stand the beaver-toothed design of the current generation, and so was "forced" to go 5-series this time around.
I was also a bit hesitant to fully embrace the NK design language because I'm lukewarm to how it's applied on the iX3.
But if this is indicative of how the NK 4-series, perhaps 5- and 7-series, will be presented? And as a REAL two-door coupé, and maybe a convertible? YES. My prayers have been answered.

How can no one at BMW still notice that their weird lines at the front bumper and hood completely ruin their designs?
What is this line about? Pointing where?

Hood should always end at the kidneys and headlights. Not in the middle of nowhere.

Here is the closest thing we have to an official image (from Top Speed - more images on their site). As you can see, that mystery line isn't there.

Erebor wroteThank you, I didn't know. Although since it is a 2-door coupé with NK styling, it's arguably still true that it's the closest thing we have to an official look at what a NK 4-series could look like. That's not the same car though. this is something else completely, which also has never been seen again after its first apprearance 2 years ago.

This is the most recent image of the Neue Klasse front design.
As it can be see the hood shut line will be awkwardly placed (whereas in the concept in was placed right) and we will also have that cut line above the headlight pointing to nowhere.

It’s as ugly as the 7 series line

When they placed the lines correctly

When they didn’t

It looks a bit off on the G70, the other ones are fine IMO. I don't really mind the hood not extending all the way to the kidneys, and as long as the line on the side naturally follows from the shape of the headlights, it doesn't stand out too much.
In that spy photo from BMWBLOG, most of the front looks awkward, like they're rough panels just riveted on. Possibly this is just for concealment of the actual shape.

We will definitely learn more of the truth of all this when
ynguldyn future models crystal ball detects movement in BMWs testing pipeline.

With the size growth in these platforms I’m wondering if the M4/4 series will be a on a shortened wheelbase to keep the proportions correct for a coupe. Looking forward to seeing what they come out with

The thing with the correct hoodline cant be done anymore because of new pedestrian crashsafety requirements. The cars need to have a so called "softnose".
If you make the hood longer to make for better looking fender and hood-lines, the softnose does not work or is very difficult to realize.

Oddly enough, the F87 (this is not my previous car shown in the picture) actually made that awful hood line work.

Okay, now I understand. There will be no next generation of the 4 series and no next generation of the ICE M4. There will only be the electric i4 and something resembling the M4, but ONLY electric.
The M4 is not selling well. Customers are choosing the M3 Touring over the M4 Coupé. Ultimately, the M4 will be discontinued, just like the M8 Coupé and the Z4.
BMW, or rather its owners, care about profits, so they will continue to produce new versions of SUVs and Touring models because those are the only ones that sell, not Coupé or Convertible models.

The North American market doesn’t even get the M3 Touring.
