Love the shark nose front.
In touring form this could be the car that pulls me out of the ICE Age.

Ragged Edge wroteWhat’s the desire for a manual model? Honestly just don’t get it??Good looking shape! I’m glad it’s not too much of a departure from the existing M3… as far as we can tell from these pics. I hope there is a manual version!😋🙄
Aren’t manuals for like trucks and agricultural things??

This dual platform idea could end up being a win-win for us all depending on how they build the ICE car.
If the ICE car comes with a mild hybrid in the ZF8 speed for torque fill and a S58 with more top end power it’s going to be a great platform and not that much heavier than today’s G80-82. (Might actually be weight neutral if the engineers prioritize lighter weight and also offer a 2WD version again)
Doing a plugin hybrid on the ICE version would be the worst of both worlds. Increased weight, complexity offsetting any HP gain compared to the current car.

Kind looks like the 2004 caddy CTS shape lol.
HEV m3 gonna be my girl- sounds like a similar hybrid platform to the kind one in my m340 just with a bigger battery. I love my 340 - its near perfect as a daily.
Im in as long as that God awful panoramic display has real idrive controls reinstalled because of riots by then.

It’s gonna be return to form, the face will be a modernized classic. The disguise doesn’t do much I see what’s gonna happen.

No driver? Then also no seats req'd.

ghaffari46 wroteYou can be both nostalgic and miss something yet appreciate modernity and move on. Humans have this amazing capacity to be multi-faceted.You forgot about the third group: guys and girls who own an EV and they know how an i4, taycan and even a tesla model 3 are fun to drive and drooling for a 2 door electric M4 and at the same time really miss their E46 and E92s!
I miss my 1990 Camry sometimes - it was my first car and I loved it. I spent more time in it than any car since.

I will say this is quite different situation and iteration. They wouldn’t change something then change again, versus above where they just didn’t change anything

akkando wrote"what's best and what people want"I guess what's irritating people is it seems like it's only "moving on" or "moving differently" because of regulations rather than what's best or what people want.
That's highly subjective and variable. What a very small subset of Bimmerpost M3 commenters want is not indicative of the broader car market.
What's "best" is extremely variable. Best for what? Best for who? The livability for future generations on this planet? The air that we breathe? Bros who wants to hear more farts from their car revving or changing gears? For the oil conglomerates who derive billions in profits from subsidies from autocrats to democracies and a "market" that is designed and regulated into force people into consuming its product?
Regulations over the past 80 years and shaped what some think is "best" - completely distorting the magical "market" many think exists. But the bind to burning fossil fuels is a result of regulation and policy, not some free market outcome that occurred naturally.
I'm not saying the coming EV world will be much different, with battery and car makers still benefitting from a distorted market. And many people will be forced to buy EVs (in lieu of ICE) not necessarily even want a car, because they are forced to have a car due to terrible land use policy.

Unfortunately, I think the iX3 is the closest the US will get to an i3 or iM3 Touring.
