Would you believe me if I told you that I love that grille? I love how aggressive the car looks. That front end is menacing. I don't need my cars to be classically "pretty." So, as a G80 owner, I'd love to see some iteration of that grille in future models. But, I'm also ok with it not being there. The F80 still looks fucking fantastic and I have zero issues with going back to smaller grilles.
I believe you but the fact you’re ok with it not being there says something. All G80 owners I’ve ever had this conversation with always walk back their positive statements about the design. The reality is the G80 design is poorly executed if not outright ugly. Sure, many got use to it and after enough mods you can make most any car look better. I just wish BMW enthusiasts would admit the G80 grille isn’t anything any of us wanted. Some accepted it because that’s the only new M3 you could get. Plus there were other things that made up for the horrible design. But can we just admit the design was a one-off and won’t be missed?

I'm not walking anything back. I'm just an open minded individual that understands that the reality is that the design could go in any direction in the future. I'm also not sure why you're insisting that this design is gone - I don't think that's a forgone conclusion. The sales certainly speak for themselves. Don't think tens of thousands of buyers are just "settling." This will probably blow your mind but I also think that the early test mule from the video looks better than the one pictured in this thread.

Feel free to venture over to the G8X side of the board and I think you'll find that there are plenty of people who would disagree with you. You've confined yourself to the F8X echo chamber for too long.

Again…have you read up on the sapphire? Because it’s far more viseral than even the last gen m5 is. Steering feel, chassis feel, emotion, it’s literally the benchmark for fun car now. It’s even better than the taycan. I’m not even talking about lap times or raw speed, just pure fun. It embodies M more than any car in a decade that bmw has released.
Ok I just checked out the Lucid Sapphire. I sure hope it’s fun and fast as you say because it’s available for the low low price of just $250,000.!!!! What?

They don’t have the economies of scale that BMW has. They also make almost all of their own components in house. Their sensors, motors, architecture, everything is all designed by them.

Also, it’s the best EV/Sedan you can buy, period. So it kinda earns its premium.

Add a 1 in front of your $80k and you might be a little closer.
Add a two in front of that 80 K and you can get that lucid sapphire.

This is a crazy take. I love it and think it looks great. I have a poster of one in my garage. I’ve got shirts and a hoodie, and a Lego M4 to go along as well. I do the “turn back when walking away” thing every time as well. I’d tap that ass if I could.

This isn’t mine but I thought it was funny and apt to the discussion. In GT7 they haven’t released the G82 yet, so some guy used decals to re-skin over an F82. LOL  make of that what you will

Fuck your rationality. Respectfully.
I second that emotion… If you want to be rational, go buy a cheap Chevy volt. Why are you even on a forum for people that are emotionally fixated on their BMWs? You say “a car is a car“ I think because you drive an SUV. Maybe if you had a real car you’d feel differently?

I wasn’t saying you were walking your statements back, just that I’ve had many G80 owners do that. And sales have never indicated how iconic a car’s design will be. BMW reported M sales have reached record levels. I would argue that lessens the M brand. I agree that the design could go any direction in the future but are you so open minded that BMW could issue any design and you’d go with it? Where’s the line? i4, XM, i3…nothing? Just open minded, and everyone will warm up to it, and what are the sales?

I’m not in a F8x echo chamber, I just think BMW is represented better by some designs and not others. Wouldn’t you agree?

Oh, ok - just wanted to make sure we're on the same page.

I understand why you and I would be against brand dilution but BMW is in the business to make money and if it ain't broken... Anecdotally, when I was in high school in the early 2000's if you saw 6500K headlights you KNEW they were Xenons from a Bimmer, it was a rare sight. Today, I can't drive fifty yards without seeing some combination of 3 new X5's and X7's. Them grilles are selling.

Of course there are hits and misses. The E36 M3 is ugly af and I have one parked in my driveway. The XM had potential but just seems awkward (two Labels sitting at the local dealer). The new 7-series is ugly to me. Don't get me started on the 2-series sedan and the MPV in EU.

Would I buy an M3 that I think is ugly? Hmm, maybe...possibly. It would have to be horrendous for me to pass. But make no mistake, this was not the case with the G80 with me. I loved the design from the first leak and ordered mine sight unseen, no test drive either.

I agree the E36 is ugly. Some of the worst stock wheels ever. I would not have bought one and skipped that generation. Let’s hope there is more consensus in the BMW community on the next M3. It will be more fun that way.

Is this an argument in favor of the big grille? The pic is grotesque, even for a video game. Either way, the big grille is still ugly.

M5 is $120K.
$80K would definitely be closer to the price of this M3 than $180K

Seems to me that everyone that has owned an EV has nothing but positives to say about the experience. Bimmer Bros will say these people are just fan boys, but with so many that have owned numerous, powerful ICE cars in the past (and currently), it just can't be true. Looks like performance isn't an issue with EVs. I believe this is called progress people.
Yup, most people that switch to an EV won't go back to a gas car. But many EV owners such as myself love that fact that there are plenty of loud gas cars around. It is so entertaining listening to their crackling engines howling next to you as you effortlessly keep up or pull away. Only problem is having a loud ICE car revving next to you also draws attention from the cops.
