Guess I’m stuck reminiscing of the good ole days… when pure driver engagement was the emphasis and before FSD EVs were ever a thing:

Interesting. Maybe a fire safety issue (in the sense that they’re impossible to extinguish)?
Yes. Was told they are not equipped to handle and/or their insurance carrier will not cover.

Looks heavy in the corners, but looking forward to what they can do with the drivetrain and styling once it’s revealed.

Hmm,...I'm watching it go through turn after turn and I don't see one instance where it loses composure from "look'n heavy in the corners"!

Now, what we don't see is it chasing another vehicle,...or another vehicle chasing it during the 'hot laps'!

In addition, we also don't know if the driver is pressing it to 80,...90,...95 or even 100%

Be interested in hearing how many high performance EV's you've owned or driven.
Exactly, and I’d consider getting one just on this alone. I’ve got an etron GT, which isn’t even the high performance model, and it’s a blast to drive. I’ve driven teslas, and they’re fun (in a straight line- which is basically all we have in Houston anyway), but build quality is a concern. Give me a quality, high performing BMW EV and we could really be onto something.

Yes.

Listen, I get that people want sound, vibration, shifting, etc. So do I...that's why I own a G80. But there are also people who drive muscle cars. I've done that, wouldn't be caught dead in one, although they do still look cool, IMO.

To each their own. I don't get this culture we've created where it has to be "my way" or it's sh!t. Perhaps we should blame Burger King? All I can say is...don't knock it until you've tried it. Everyone who rails on and on and on about how NA engines are soooo responsive and turbos suck really has never experienced the immediate response from a good, performance tuned, EV.

And yeah, if noise and sound gets your heart pumping (and judging by some of the exhaust setups and stupid burble tunes I see clearly that is a popular thing) then go ahead and buy that. But don't say this is "soulless" just because YOU don't like it. Just say "I don't like it" and move on.

As for Etron GT....very good car. I tried both it and Taycan but couldn't get my head around the horrible packaging of that platform. At 6'2", and with a tall family, neither of them offer the space I need and they are loooong. And the GT / Taycan 4S while feeling nice, feels a bit....tepid....after owning a Model 3 Performance. The facelift supposedly solves a lot of woes but the packaging is not one of them.

But man, both of them look sooooo good rolling down the road too. Especially with good wheels.

Give it to me baby! Want it. 300+miles of range please. Ok with <1000HP also.

Entry model at 70-80k would work nicely.

This could be faster than a Nevera for $50k and it would still be a snooze fest to drive. Zero interest in goofy EV’s. My Taycan lasted 3 months in the garage. Total junk, shouldn’t even be called a M3.

This.

I too am very tired of the culture of if you don’t like what I like then you are an idiot and clearly inferior.

As an owner of an i4M50 I am really exited to see what a true M ev is like. Cause I can tell you my current car is way more car than I need as a daily and a street car. So I can only imagine what the new one will be like. Yes, ev’s don’t have the soul of a classic ICE, but they are much better modes of transportation. And if they can be fun too, then it’s a win in my book. I do miss my E30M3 but it is like my vinyl collection. Only use it occasionally for nostalgia. Streaming really is better for 99% of use cases. EV’s are equivalent to streaming in my book.

Agreed. I had one of these as a rental and it was pretty fun. Even the fake Borla exhaust sound was fun. It was even better that I could turn it off.

Not banned at Sear Point or Laguna Secs, both near me. No sure about Thunder Hill.

Had my i4 M50 on the track at Sears a couple of months ago.

I'm excited also as the owner of an i4 M50 (every option and individual leather and M seats retrofit).

Anyway, I've had my i4 on the track and if they can put this car on a 400lb diet (4600lbs +/-) with the same battery density it will be a winner.

Won't be buying it because the i4 with 540hp close to 600lb-ft of torque is plenty for a daily. Besides mine is only 2 years old.

The new i4 is an M60 with peak HP at 600.

Continual improvement. So the M3 EV would have to be in the 700-750hp range to even make sense because the i4 M60 exists.

But with that being said, my track car is a RWD G87 manual that's on its way.

I like both!

Yes many do allow, but always need to check. Summit Point in WV is closest to Metro DC and outright bans. VIR in southern VA does allow but is >6hr away.

Sorry to hear that. You should give a manual transmission M car a go first. Smells, Sounds, Vibrations, gears= Soul.

I think this new EV M3 would make a great 7th or 8th form of transportation lol. Totally appreciate the tech and E power but most enthusiasts will get bored and trade this thing within a year unless they have other cars with soul that are engaging and fun to drive.
This and every other M car have the worst manual feel of any car ever produced. This manual is Souless!!!!!! Your other adjectives are spot on

I don’t know what you guys are talking about with “looks heavy”. Looks pretty dang nimble to me.

I think you are just used to hearing engine noise masking the tire squeal. Put a silent exhaust on a G80 and it would look exactly like this in the corners.
