Just look at the interior of the E46, E39 and E38. They are all different! Now look at the G80, G90 and G70. They are all similar! If you put someone who has zero idea about cars to tell which car is which from the G series by looking at the interiors, I think they couldn't tell the difference.

The E46's interior and exterior are different from E39 and E38, whereas the G90's and G70's interior are almost the same. Same pedals, same steering wheel, same giant TV, same digital dashboard (it's a screen so it can be considered the same), same armrest...The exteriors are different indeed.

If you put side by side the G80 and the G82 for a non-car person, the only difference he will see will be the 2 doors vs. 4 doors. From the back the taillights are different, but when it comes to the E46, E39 and E38 you can see the difference from the front, from the sides and also from the back. Clearly recognisable cars!

I'm not going to hijack the thread :respect:
You make some fair points about the interiors. As for your G80 vs. G82 argument, is that not also true for the E36, E9X, and F8X? They're basically 2 and 4 door versions of the same car.

You're right though, let's not derail the thread. :drink:

There wouldn’t be so much animosity back and forth in these threads if the authorities in the developed world didn’t turn it into an “either, or” situation. It should just be one big marketplace of vehicles. There are some badass ICE cars out there and a lot of development on the EV side. The regulators are to blame for all the tribalism. Just innovate and introduce products and the market will sort out the rest on its own time.

Some semblance of that is likely where we’re headed. I’ve read that Mercedes is bringing back a V8, the Hemi is coming back, and BMW says the US and ME will continue to support V8 powertrains.

And it makes sense that China would be pushing EV and be developing the batteries fastest. They have the resources for it. They produce oil but they use a lot more oil. Their reserves per capita are low. It serves their national interests to become proficient at EV’s.

Taycan, Rimac, and based on initial reviews: M3 EV.

Cars don’t have soul. Horses did. “Soul” is just an abstract fallback people use when facts stop working in their favor.

EVs don’t rumble or rattle — and that’s the point. ICE cars spent a century trying to be quiet and smooth. EVs don’t need the noise — they just go, instantly and effortlessly. That silence you hear? It’s not emptiness. It’s progress. Not to mention, more than 90% of the cars sold around the world are either 3 or 4 cylinders - or they're diesels. The noise isn't pleasant at all, it's just a nuisance.

And that speed limit chime is an EU regulation — not an EV feature — and it doesn’t exist everywhere. A “clear-minded” person might take a second to think about the benefits of quieter vehicles. It’s really not that hard: When ICE cars are finally gone, it’ll be one of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades in decades. New York City, L.A., Boston, Paris, Rome with way less noise pollution - sounds like a dream but it's coming soon!

Btw, you calling yourself 'clear minded' is like North Korea calling themselves 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea'.
Couldn't have said this better myself without HR on my back!:D

Looks a touch heavy but well composed. Compared to the mammoth boat we all know as the G90 M5, it will be lighter. And compared to the polarizing looks of the G80 M3, this will hopefully look nicer in the front. Only time will tell huh...

Full electric? Will there be a full gas version?
In an interview with Automobilwoche, Klaus von Moltke, Head of Global Powertrain Production at BMW, made it clear that the combustion engine remains the company’s foundation. He emphasized that BMW has no fixed end date for its gasoline and diesel powerplants and will continue to rely on internal-combustion technology alongside its growing portfolio of electrified models.

Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M, reinforced this commitment when speaking with Autocar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. He noted that the six-cylinder inline engine is central to BMW M’s identity and that the V8 has a storied racing heritage. Van Meel even admitted he couldn’t imagine fitting a four-cylinder into an M5, underscoring that BMW M’s signature engines aren’t going anywhere.

Looking ahead, BMW plans to keep investing in its combustion lineup despite increasingly strict Euro 7 emissions regulations. The company will continue development of its B48 four-cylinder, B58 inline-six, and S68 V8 engines well into the next decade, aiming to maintain roughly a 50 percent share of internal-combustion models in its overall mix by 2030.
